Enthusiasts of ghost- and folklore stories are welcome to register to our regular tours that take place every month on specific dates. It is also possible to book tours for tourism groups, school field trips as well as private events (e.g. for birthday parties etc) for your own preferred dates (NB! Minimum size of the group – 10 persons).
The girl immured in Tartu Dome Church, the enchanted princess, the Purple Lady of the Literature Museum and Count von Goette who once lived in a fancy villa are just some of the examples of the spirits who lurk around in the old houses and streets of Tartu. By the means of ghost stories, they can briefly come alive again. On a walking tour down the streets of Tartu, we recount the old 19th century legends from Estonian Folklore Archive’s collections and also contemporary ghost lore that has been collected in the present time.
On this walking tour we focus on the rumors that were spread in Tartu after the Second World War about a human sausage factory supposedly working somewhere in the town center. Stories about people gone missing, suspicious goods on the food market and ruined buildings where the secret human sausage factory was believed to be located are a part of Tartu’s oral history. In addition we’ll tell of other urban legends concerning food. These white-knuckle stories are a real character test for a true horror fan!
On the route down the cobbled streets of the Old Town you can hear about the most famous man in Tallinn, Old Thomas and another one nearly as famous – the Old Man of Lake Ülemiste. We will also tell of historical, medieval topics such as pillories, executions and Tallinn’s executioner. We will try to find out how the mummy of Niguliste church is doing and whether the ghost of the Tallitorn tower is at home. If these stories have not yet frightened the listeners off, then we will end our tour by attempting to „visit the Devil’s wedding“.
On this tour we invite you to meet the ghost of the beautiful lady of Vene street 17, tell about the unfortunate fate of the builder of St. Olaf’s Church and inform you of the kinds of things that were eaten by the Brotherhood of Blackheads during the Shrove Tuesday. In addition we will tell a sad story about a loving monk who cannot get any peace even in this day and go check whether there are any spirits left on the Spirit (Vaimu) street or whether they have all left in search of more peaceful places to escape from the tourists.
